Saint Barbara’s Day 2024 – our feast
On 4th December, as every year, the community of Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka celebrated Miners' Day – a special feast expressing tribute to the hard work of miners and their contribution to the development of our region and the Polish energy sector.
This year's celebration took place in an atmosphere of pride in the achievements of the Company, whose stability and efficiency in the difficult conditions of energy transition are a reason for well-deserved recognition. On the occasion of this miners' holiday, 72 people were awarded medals for their long service. Four mining ranks were also conferred and 10 miner's swords, 5 miner's sticks, 12 big miner’s daggers and 30 small miner’s daggers were granted. The title of meritorious worker for the mining industry was awarded to 55 people, and six received the title of meritorious worker for LWB. President Zbigniew Stopa received the Silver Cross of Merit.
Traditionally, the celebration of Saint Barbara's Day was inaugurated by the company's miners' orchestra, which marched through the streets of Łęczna in the morning. At 9 am, a solemn Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Stanisław Budzik. A further part of the event took place in the Bogdanka Pithead Building. The invited guests included: Professor Dariusz Dudka – Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland, the Governor of the Lublin Province Krzysztof Komorski, Bartosz Krysta – Member of the Management Board of Enea S.A. for Commercial Affairs and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A. This year's celebration included also a performance by children from the Public Kindergarten No. 3 in Łęczna.
We will manage not only to fulfil our ambitious production plans, but also to continue the development of our company by strengthening its position in the region and the country. We managed to prove that mining can be flexible. We will need this flexibility in the future, when the situation in the hard coal market will be increasingly difficult. Such activities are the result of the entire team working together, for which I thank each and every one of you. We see Bogdanka's future exactly in such adaptation to new market conditions, including changes in coal demand from our key customers such as Enea. Despite the challenges, we take steps to ensure Bogdanka's stability and job security,
- said Zbigniew Stopa, Chairman of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka, during his speech.
