Bogdanka’s 200-millionth ton of coal
Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka is celebrating a historic moment today, having mined the 200-millionth ton of coal since its establishment. The mine, which has been in operation in the Lublin region since 1982, attained this impressive achievement, thereby confirming that it belongs to the category of the largest and most efficient mines in the entire history of hard coal mining in Poland.
The historic 200-millionth ton of coal was brought to the surface today during the operation of the first shift in the Bogdanka field. The ‘jubilee’ ton of coal, loaded into a rail car, left the mine directly for the Enea Group’s Kozienice power plant.
Bogdanka produced its first one hundred million tons of coal within the first 30 years of operation. The second one hundred million tons was mined by Bogdanka within a much shorter period of only 11 years. According to the Management Board, this testifies to the Company’s increased efficiency, continuous roll-out of organizational and mining innovations and commitment of its staff.
Today’s achievement serves not only as a milestone in Bogdanka’s history, but also as proof of the ambition and hard work of all those who have contributed to the establishment and growth of our mine. Owing to their determination, Bogdanka is generating record-high profits today coupled with unparalleled efficiency rates vis-à-vis the industry
says Artur Wasilewski, Vice-President of the LW Bogdanka Management Board for Economic and Commercial Affairs.
Our achievement of this symbolic mark not only confirms Bogdanka’s stable position on the domestic coal market, but also emphasizes our contribution to upholding Poland’s energy security. Our output and, at the same time, sales of coal to key customers with whom we have long-term contracts is carried out as scheduled. Recently, we have also resumed exports of coal from the Lublin region to Ukraine
adds Dariusz Dumkiewicz, Vice-President of the LW Bogdanka Management Board for Sales and Investments.
I congratulate our whole staff on this achievement. I extend my thanks both to those who work in the mine today and those who have been building Bogdanka’s success over the past four decades. We are on the right track with our coal output in the fourth quarter of the year, meaning that we may confidently uphold our projection of the fulfillment of Bogdanka’s annual production plan of 7 million tons of commercial coal in 2023
concluded Dariusz Batyra, Chief Engineer and Mine Site Manager.
