Bogdanka commences extraction from a third longwall

Last week, Lubelski Węgiel “Bogdanka” S.A. successfully launched hard coal extraction on a new, highly efficient coal-cutting longwall in the Stefanów Field. It means that at present the coal mine operates three walls, in keeping with the earlier planned work timetable.

In order to execute the planned 2023 extraction volume, i.e. 8.3 million ton of commercial coal, the mine operates a schedule based on a flexible mix of 3-4 mining walls. This strategy, based on more than two walls, aims at mitigation of geological risk and is more profitable for the Company. “Besides the new longwall in the Stefanów Field, the Company is currently mining with full efficiency the longwalls in the Bogdanka and Nadrybie Fields.

- said Kasjan Wyligała, President of the Management Board of Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A.

Longwall 2/VI/389 is approximately 2.2 m thick, 296 m long, and has progression route of 1,211 m. Despite major logistical challenges, the longwall reinforcement was completed on 24 February, i.e. earlier than planned. It is a spectacular success of the mine’s employees, whose task was to transport all the wall complex shearer equipment from another area of the mine approximately 5 km away, along highly inclined roadways.

The test run of the new longwall 2/VI/389 in the Stefanów Field was very successful. At present, thanks to the new five-shift work system, the longwall will be operated with the maximum use of machinery and longwall complex shearer equipment availability. “This will ensure daily progress of over a dozen running meters

- adds Adam Partyka – Vice-President of the Management Board for Labor and Social Affairs.
