Another mining record in Bogdanka

The beginning of the year brings more excellent news from the Bogdanka coal mine. This time, the miners can boast of preparing to mine the longest longwall not only in the company's history, but also in the history of the entire hard coal mining industry in Poland!

On 29 January 2024, at 8:00 a.m., on the first shift, by the decision of the Head of Mine Operations, LW Bogdanka began mining longwall 1/IV/391 in the Bogdanka field. The longwall will be mined with a longwall shearer. Its seam thickness is estimated at about 2.8 meters. The record longwall is located in the Bogdanka mining field, at a depth of 1,020 meters underground. This is the first longwall in field 4 in seam 391. Its run is estimated at 3,015 meters. This is the 98th longwall in the company's history.

said Adam Partyka, Vice-President of LW Bogdanka's Management Board for Labor and Social Affairs.

Particularly noteworthy is the impressive length of this longwall, i.e. as much as 380 meters. Based on this parameter, longwall 1/IV/391 is not only the longest longwall in the 41-year history of the Bogdanka mine, but also in the history of the entire hard coal mining industry in Poland,

says Kasjan Wyligała, President of LW Bogdanka S.A.’s Management Board.

I would like to thank our Workforce very much for their willingness and realization of such an ambitious goal. Currently, we are fully implementing the production plans announced in the Company's Strategy based on a mix of 3-4 longwalls. The new longwall gives us the ability to flexibly plan the operations at the mine. This is also great news in the context of our production plans for 2024, which we have set at around 9 million tons

adds Wyligała.

This is very good news from the point of view of the efficiency and economy of our business. The large thickness, combined with the record length of the longwall, ensures high productivity and economic efficiency, which will directly translate into the planned low unit mining cost for this longwall. This is extremely important in the current market situation, where we are seeing reduced demand and price declines compared to the situation a year ago

said Artur Wasilewski, Vice-President of LW Bogdanka's Management Board for Economic and Financial Affairs.

In mining terminology, the "length" of a longwall in a mine is the area between two longwall galleries in which a coal seam is mined. A longwall "run", in turn, is an area deep into the rock mass that is designated for mining in a given longwall.
