Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A. and Węglokos S.A. have signed a letter of intent on future cooperation

The companies signed a letter of intent on 18 September 2023 in Katowice, during the European Steel Congress - Steel 2023.

The companies signed a letter of intent on 18 September 2023 in Katowice, during the European Steel Congress - Steel 2023. The content of the document regulating the cooperation between the two companies was signed by Tomasz Heryszek, President of the Management Board, and Marek Akciński, Vice-President of the Management Board for Group Affairs, on behalf of Węglokoks, and Kasjan Wyligała, President of the Management Board, and Dariusz Dumkiewicz, Vice-President of the Management Board for Trade and Investments, on behalf of Bogdanka.

Currently, the two companies are implementing recently developed, ambitious growth strategies aimed at strengthening their position in the market. Węglokoks S.A. focuses primarily on the development of the Company’s steelworks and plans to invest in modern production lines. For Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A., on the other hand, the long-term development strategy means striving to become a Multi-Commodity Concern. This line of development entails supplying a variety of raw materials to many industries, including but not limited to the steel industry.

Access to the mining expertise and technologies that Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka has creates the potential to identify and exploit strategic raw material deposits, which is crucial for the country's economic development. We are extremely pleased that we will be working with Węglokoks to provide the highest quality iron-bearing charge for the planned steelworks. Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A. is a leading hard coal producer in Poland that stands apart from its peers in terms of its modern and efficient mining. It is one of the largest Polish hard coal mines. Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A. chiefly conducts mining operations in terms of hard coal extraction, enrichment and sales. It supplies this raw material mainly to industrial offtakers. Supply contracts are long-term, and the product is sold to the commercial power sector and the industrial power sector.

The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since June of 2009. In August 2022, Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A. returned to listing on the WIG-ESG Index.

Since October of 2015 Bogdanka has been a member of the Enea Group, the second largest player on Poland’s electrical power market in terms of the generation of electricity, which manages the entire value chain on the electricity market ranging from fuel to the generation of electricity, distribution, sales (supply) and customer service.
