Bogdanka, 17 April 2020

Bogdanka increases help for hospitals and institutions fighting the coronavirus pandemic up to the total of PLN 740,000. As part of cooperation with the Ministry of State Assets and Province Governor’s Office in Lublin, the company will donate another PLN 200,000 for necessary medical equipment to create an additional virology laboratory in the province which will carry out diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2. With the new lab, the number of tests performed locally will grow to 400 per day.

The company has thus far donated PLN 500,000 for fight against coronavirus. The money was transferred to hospitals and health services in the province. Additional PLN 200,000 will be donated to Jan Boży Independent Public Provincial Hospital in Lublin which was selected by the Lublin Province authorities as an entity responsible for purchasing the equipment necessary for the creation of the additional virology laboratory. The machinery will then be delivered to the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Lublin. Moreover, Bogdanka will support two hospitals which it has been cooperating with for years: Children’s Research Hospital in Lublin and Independent Public Health Care Centre in Łęczna by donating money for the purchase of masks and other protective equipment for the medical staff on duty.

This difficult time we are all facing today requires solidarity and commitment. Our company experiences this in particular by doing everything – around the clock, seven days a week – to secure the health of our employees and the continuity of operations in the mine. Despite the difficulties and increased costs of operations, we are aware of the significance of our commitment and solidarity with the community we function in. So it is our duty to help those on the front lines of the battle with the pandemic. We remain in close cooperation with the Ministry of State Assets and Lublin Province Governor to ensure that our support is received where it is most needed. We hope the donated funds will contribute to stopping the spread of the pandemic- said Artur Wasil, President of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka SA.

Bogdanka, employing the total of approximately 5,600 people within the Group, has introduced a number of changes to the organisation and rules aimed at securing the employees and their families from contracting coronavirus while ensuring the continuity of operations which is significant for the entire management of the mine. We altered the system of underground work, introduced strict protective equipment policy (masks, gloves), created several additional underground handwashing stations, and ordered additional disinfection of many machines and devices. We have also introduced obligatory temperature control for persons entering the company premises, also in the buses transporting employees to work. The mine does not accept customers from outside of the company and some of its administration staff work from home. A dedicated crisis centre and working groups are operating in the mine to continuously manage the situation.
