Mining alliance for modernity

Tuesday, 2019-02-26

Krakow, 26 February 2019

LW Bogdanka, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and KGHM Polska Miedź have begun a collaboration. On February 26 in Krakow, during the 28th Underground Exploitation School, the companies signed a letter of intent, which establishes cooperation between them in introducing cutting-edge technical and IT solutions to the production process. This is the first such tripartite agreement in the history of Polish mining.

The signed letter of intent says that the companies will share their experiences, in particular with the use of robots in the production process and during rescue operations, as well as how to improve business management methods based on IT solutions or implement the principles of circular economy. In addition, the mining companies will support each other in the acquisition of external co-financing for innovative solutions in mining. Detailed terms of cooperation will be defined in separate agreements.

“Each of the companies signing today’s letter of intent has decades of experience in the field of extraction. We had decided that sharing this knowledge could bring tangible results in terms of production efficiency and – which is extremely important – underground work safety”, said Artur Wasil, President of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka S.A. “We place great emphasis on modern technologies. We have the Mine of Intelligent Solutions programme in place, we have for years now been cooperating with academic centres, including the Polish Academy of Sciences and the AGH University of Science and Technology. We strive to be one of the top modern and innovative companies in the world. By joining our forces, we can achieve these ambitious goals faster”, added Artur Wasil.

“Polish mining is considered to be one of the most modern in the world, and the alliance of three mining companies guarantees its further development. Only further growth will allow us to maintain the position of leaders in our markets”, said Daniel Ozon, President of JSW.

“There is no doubt in my mind that our unique experience and knowledge gathered at KGHM is the company’s true capital. We are building the position of a Polish and global giant on the basis of these resources. In accordance with the new strategy, we are already significantly increasing our expenditure on innovations. Cooperation in this area and exchange of experience will intensify our activities”, said Marcin Chludziński, President of KGHM, during the ceremony of signing the letter of intent.

On behalf of JSW S.A. the agreement was signed by Daniel Ozon, President of the Management Board. KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. was represented by President of the Management Board, Marcin Chludziński, and Vice-President for Production, Radosław Stach, while LW Bogdanka S.A. was represented by President of the Management Board, Artur Wasil, and Deputy President of the Management Board for Employee and Social Affairs, Adam Partyka.
