PRESS RELEASE

BOGDANKA SIGNED LETTERS OF INTENT WITH THE AGH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN KRAKOW

Bogdanka signed letters of intent with the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow to employ the best graduates of Master’s degree studies in Underground Mining at the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, and to organise mining internships for students of four faculties of the AGH University.

LW Bogdanka agreed that each year it will employ the best graduates of Master’s degree studies in Underground Mining who will finish their studies with high grade average, and will be willing to work for Bogdanka. The selection of the candidates will be supervised by a coordinator assigned by LW Bogdanka who will strictly cooperate with the faculty’s governing bodies.

Holiday internships will be organised for students of four University faculties: the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection, the Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics. The aim of the internships is to ensure adequate training for underground mining personnel, and in particular, raise awareness of the Geological and Mining Law and the underground workplace health and safety standards.

“For many years now, LW Bogdanka has been the most advanced hard coal mine in Poland. Most of all, we owe this to our personnel’s great technical expertise which allows us to successfully introduce and exploit the most advanced solutions available in global mining. In search of the best solutions, we have for years collaborated with the industry’s major scientific centres in Poland through scientific partnerships, joint publications, and research and development projects. The AGH University in Krakow, which has been our partner practically since the foundation of the mine in Bogdanka, is certainly one of the key scientific centres in our industry,” said Krzysztof Szlaga, President of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka S.A.

The letters of intent that we have just signed strengthen our cooperation with the AGH University and mark an important step towards maintaining the highest quality of personnel in Bogdanka by employing the best graduates of the University which is the alma mater of a large number of our current employees. It is also an important contribution towards ensuring proper training for the Polish underground mining personnel, which we also feel responsible for, as one of the largest players in Poland,” said Krzysztof Szlaga.

The AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow is one of the best, most reputable and most advanced Polish universities which has for many years secured top places in university rankings. It is a leading university in Poland in terms of modern technologies which also ranks high at the international level.

The Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering (until 2002 - the Faculty of Mining) is the oldest faculty at AGH. It was the only faculty of the Mining Academy, which was established in 1919 and opened by Marshal Jófef Piłsudski. The history of that faculty was the history of the entire university until the 1950s.

The faculty cooperates with a number of universities and scientific and research institutions both at home and abroad. Study programmes of all specialisations with major in Mining and Geology meet formal and legal requirements for engineers employed in underground and opencast mining.
